The definitive guide to charging your Chevrolet Bolt EV
The Chevy Bolt EV is the first affordable, all-electric car to provide useful range. It’s available,
affordable, and ready to revolutionize the way you drive electric.
Range?
The Chevy Bolt EV has an EPA-rated range of 238 miles – enough to drive from New York City to
Washington DC – and more than enough to meet the daily needs of American drivers, most of
whom average 40 miles per day.
How long?
Never again waste time going to a gas station. Instead, take 10 seconds to plug in your Bolt at
night and wake up with it fully recharged. A level 2 charger will provide 238 miles of range in
about 8.5 hours or about 25 miles per hour.
How much does it cost?
At the US average price of $0.13 per kWh (about $1.15/gallon), it costs about $7.50 to ‘fill up’
the Bolt EV. That means you’re wasting nearly $20 per tank (22 MPG, $2.40 per gallon) in a gas-
fueled car. Electricity is domestically-produced and readily available at a stable price. It can also
leverage renewable energy such as solar.
At-home convenience
You can have your own personal ‘gas station’ installed in your garage or outside your home for
$750 or less. Some utilities offer rebates for the installation or incentives for charging at night
when electricity demand is lower.
Not at home?
Most BEV drivers will charge at home about 85% of the time (with at work being second, and
public facilities offering a third alternative). The Bolt EV can be equipped for DC fast charging,
which provides about 90 miles of range in 30 minutes – enough time for lunch or to stretch
your legs during a road trip. Every Bolt EV comes with a ChargePoint membership card so
you’re ready to access public stations that are easily located via the ChargePoint app.
